TAP provides a myriad of resources designed to accelerate the growth of emerging technology enterprises. We believe our combination of hands-on guidance, social and intellectual capital (business and technical), turn-key infrastructure and other university resources offers a unique value proposition to high-potential, early-stage companies. TAP recognizes that every young company has unique needs and our offerings are customized for each participating firm.
Extensive Business Assistance: TAP's staff work tirelessly to help portfolio companies perfect and implement their business plans. We are often requested to serve as strategic advisors and management consultants helping to craft product development, marketing, sales, and finance plans. In addition, companies have sought our help to secure reference customers, recruit senior executives and board members, and obtain grant and venture funding. As TAP generally maintains a staff-to-company ratio of 1-to-3, we are able to commit significant energy to portfolio companies.
Technical Assistance: Not only can we help our portfolio companies access tremendous technology and product development expertise, but TAP can also provide a cost-effective, well-trained pool of labor. Numerous TAP companies have benefited from the knowledge of technical faculty as well as the skilled computer programmers, engineers, and scientists that the university can readily provide.
Introductions to key industry or funding contacts can often be catalyzing for emerging companies. TAP's staff have facilitated enabling customer, venture investor, and strategic partner introductions for numerous companies. We maintain close working relationships with the region's venture investors and service providers. In addition, TAP's staff, as well as other university team members, have numerous key contacts across diverse technology and biosciences industries.
TAP opens the door for its portfolio companies to leverage valuable university resources. TAP enables its companies to utilize world-class university laboratory and testing facilities, gain access to word-renowned faculty members, hire technical students and benefit from the university purchasing discounts.
TAP's state-of-the-art incubation headquarters provides emerging companies over 20,000 square feet of fully-furnished office, wet-laboratory, and meeting space. All TAP companies receive 24/7 HVAC, use of a sophisticated telecom system, fiber optic LAN communication, and all utilities. In addition, we offer shared laboratory space which includes over $500,000 worth of modern instruments and equipment, including a walk-in Cold Room, an Autoclave, a High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), a Fluorescent Plate Reader, and a Scintillation Counter.
The period of residency within the incubator is generally one to four years, after which a company is expected to "graduate" from the Program and compete in a commercial environment. |
